Ännu mer så i dagens musikklimat, när neosoul sedan länge dött och soulen är syntbaserad med svulstiga ljudbilder. Det råa och jordnära i "Black Messiah" blir en frisk fläkt, och D'Angelo sjunger som bara han kan, med säregna melodier och spöklik falsett. It's about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and everyplace where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen. It's not about praising one charismatic leader but celebrating thousands of them. Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are) but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape where these songs can live to the fullest. Black Messiah is not one man. Dev Hynes, som mannen bakom Blood Orange egentligen heter, med sitt andra album<br/>'Cupid Deluxe'. Albumet är helt producerat av Hynes själv i sin nya hemstad New York och gästas av bland andra David Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), Caroline Polachek (Chairlift) och Samantha Urbani (Friends). Sedan debuten 'Coastal Grooves' från 2011 har Hynes skrivit och producerat låtar åt artister som Solange, Sky Ferreira, MKS och många fler.
